bguy_1986
Hoses will still be required for SpaceX suits correct? Just wondering if they have some amazing technology I would want to know about.

DocM
LZ-1 changes. I overlaid the story's plan image with a recent Planet Labs Dove satellite image showing 2nd pad construction. http://www.floridatoday.com/story/tech/science/space/2017/08/25/spacex-build-dragon-facility-test-stand-cape-canaveral-landing-zone-1-florida/594380001/?hootPostID=bcfa5782b0b0cb086a5b8bc7e0ac3ff3 Quote SpaceX to build Dragon facility, test stand at Cape Canaveral's Landing Zone 1 SpaceX has received regulatory approval to make changes to its landing zone at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in anticipation of increased activities related to its Dragon spacecraft, according to permitting documents obtained by FLORIDA TODAY. > According to the documents, Landing Zone 1 will play host to a temporary Dragon processing and refurbishment facility until a permanent location is found. And a "static test fire" stand near the new Dragon facility will be built to test the spacecraft's launch abort system, which is designed to quickly transport the vehicle and astronauts away from the rocket in the event of an emergency. Static test fires are SpaceX's pre-launch checks of engines, software and other equipment prior to mission liftoff. > Unobscured Vision 1 Share

DocM
Why now 2 years for Boca Chica?? Most likely: it's being built for BFR and BFR derived vehicles, which also explains that monstrous custom tower crane.

Amos-6 also drove the delay in Texas, the focus had to shift to repairing SLC-40 and a lot of the crews slated for Texas were sent to Florida instead. Unobscured Vision
Yep, and the earlier talk of possibly co-habitating 39-B with NASA is likely not going forward now. SLS is happening whether common sense stares people in the face or not. I equate those two sharing 39-B with Leonard and Sheldon from TTBT and their apartment ... Leonard is the cool, calm and collected one (SpaceX) and Sheldon being the rather odd, stuck-in-his-ways and difficult-to-live-with one but actually needs the people in his life (NASA). Eventually Leonard gets married to the hot chick and takes over the apartment because he's the only one able to really handle things, but promises to keep it exactly the way it was so Sheldon has a "safe space". *yawn* ... guess we can only dream, eh? SpaceX being the new NASA?? anthdci 1 Share
