Steven P. Administrators Posted June 7, 2020 Administrators Share Posted June 7, 2020 Not sure why I didn't reply in here yet 😛 I built my new system last year in stages Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro WiFi Intel Core i5-9600K be quiet! Pure Base 600 be quiet! Straight Power 11 550W Cryorig H7 G.Skill Ripjaws V F4-3200C16D-16GVKB (32 GB) KFA2 GeForce RTX 2070 Super EX Samsung 970 Evo Plus 256GB (C:\Windows) Intel 660P 1TB (D:\Data) Toshiba P300 3TB SATA Samsung CRG9 (49" 5120x1440 @120Hz) FreeSync 2 Briefly had a cheap Logitech G613 keyboard but I didn't like it, went back to my Logitech K800 which broke last week, ordered a Razer Blackwidow Elite (orange switches) Logitech G502 Hero mouse The pics are from last year so once I have the Razer keyboard I will post an updated pic of my setup. I do not have a plexiglass side panel, it is on my list of things to order Lol. I guess you could call my setup Gaming on a budget 😛 I will most likely get a i9-9900K at some point (and new PSU) but I think that's a year out at minimum. +InsaneNutter MVC Posted June 9, 2020 MVC Share Posted June 9, 2020 I have no rgb these days, however bonus points for retro rgb? The metadata on this photo says it was taken on 23.01.2004: This was the first PC case I purchased. I believe it was the cool thing to have neon light strips in your PC at the time, I then expanded upon that with a few additional case fans I got for £1 each that were a few different colours. Pretty sure at the time that PC contained: Athlon XP 2200+ 512MB SD Ram 80gb and 120gb IDE hard drive GeForce MX 440 Windows XP These days I preferer my PC to be incognito and not light up like a Christmas tree, as nice as I think modern rgb is on setup photos! +Dick Montage, Circaflex, jnelsoninjax and 3 others 2 1 3 Share

Geoffrey B. Veteran Posted April 16, 2021 Veteran Share Posted April 16, 2021 It has been an exceptionally long time Since I have posted one of these, I wouldn't say its RGB, its all Purple Specs: CPU :Ryzen 9 3950X RAM: 64GB DDR4 3200 Storage: 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus Graphics Card: Nvidia 3090 FE Cooler, NZXT Kraken Monitor: Samsung Odyssey G9 (49in Curved Ultrawide 5120x1440) Chassis: NZXT H510 Mobo: Gigabyte X570 Pro Wifi (ITX) I started with an NZXT H1 chassis but they were a fire hazard. Also pictured is a purple 3D printed nut and bolt I use for Sag stability on the graphics card. I have also created a vinyl skin for the window of the Kirin Tor logo from World of Warcraft. SouthGate
New monitors. I finally got rid of my 3x 27" HP 27FW 1080p monitors (donated to local school) for 3x MSI 27" Optix MAG272CQR 1440p 165hz. I was apprehensive about curved monitors at first. I think a single 27" curved monitor would be hard to get along with, but for a triple monitor setup arch and head swivel feels quite natural. Also, going from 75hz to 165hz is a game changer. Everything is buttery smooth and my 2080 Ti stills seems to have the grunt to run beyond 4K res playable. Before and after below, rest of setup on bottom of page 3. Jim K Global Moderator Posted May 17, 2021 Global Moderator Share Posted May 17, 2021 Nothing really new ... however I did build a computer for work. This computer died... I couldn't bring it back to life and neither could our IT department. I suspect the motherboard went out or the onboard graphics. This was a Pentium 4 system which controlled our thyroid uptake probe and well counter. We received a $5K quote from Capintec for just the computer. That was not acceptable to me ... the whole unit is in the process (a tedious one) to be replaced but we needed something now. Sooo....I put together this Frankenstein from old components I had laying around (motherboard from my old HTPC, CPU and case from my old gaming rig) ...brings you back to the days before cable management and no RGB: ...and pretty much why the Capintec system is expensive... ....this Multichannel Analyzer (MCA) card which connects to the well counter and thyroid probe. System specs: CPU: Intel Xeon E3110 ... I believe the cooler is the stock one from my i5-4360. Not sure though. Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-E7AUM-DS2H w/ onboard GeForce 9400 graphics RAM: 4GB Case: Lian Li A10 Power supply: Xigmatek something-watts. Got it for free many years ago...never used it. OS: Windows XP SP2 HDD: Barracuda 80GB I originally tried installing a fresh copy of XP, the drivers for the MCA board and the Capitnec software ... but couldn't get it to work. The software would freeze with the MCA board installed and the registration key wouldn't work for the software (when I could run without the MCA card installed). I ended up just taking the HDD out of the old Dell ... to my surprise it booted without blue screening, I installed the motherboard drivers and everything just worked. Saved the US taxpayers $5K. Yes...it is XP ... but no ... it isn't on the network and we don't enter patient information into this computer ... instead we use a non-identifiable accession number as the patient ID. Personally, nothing has changed at my home setup since this 2016(!) post...except maybe one or two new SSDs. margrave, Steven P., Mindovermaster and 2 others 5 Share
