Instagram changes nudity policy after backlash by Paul Hill Instagram has changed its nudity policy following backlash from users after it deleted posts from the account of plus-size model Nyome Nicholas-Williams. According to The Guardian, the deleted posts showed Nicholas-Williams with her eyes closed and arms around her breasts; this apparently violated the firm’s nudity policy and it turns out not everyone may have been held to the same standards. Instagram was accused of discrimination in August after black people and plus-size models reported that the platform had been deleting their posts. In the case of Nyome Nicholas-Williams, Instagram also threatened to delete her account despite it being verified and having more than 62,000 followers. Responding to the deletions of posts and the racism accusations, a spokesperson for Instagram said: “As we looked into this more closely, we realised it was an instance where our policy on breast squeezing wasn’t being correctly applied. Hearing Nyome’s feedback helped us understand where this policy was falling short, and how we could refine it.” People like Nicholas-Williams will not have to wait long before they can begin posting on Instagram unimpeded because the company confirmed that the policy change will apply across both Instagram and Facebook starting this week. Found an old Dinosaur: Gateway P5 133 ... in pretty bad shape
+Warwagon posted a topic in General Discussion
So my dad found this computer when he was tearing down our old shed on the farm. It's a gateway P5 60. What's sad is I have some old ISA sound cards I recently found and I also wanted to dabble in some DOS (To bring back the good old days). So this computer is exactly what I could have used. How sad. What I hadn't realized until I started taking it apart, is that the IO on the machines was mounted to the back of the case and connected to the motherboard via a cable. The only IO on that board is keyboard and mouse. -
Yesterday I acquired a Gateway p5 133. Boy does this computer bring back memories. I'm going to use it for some old school dos gaming. The computer came with 16 megs of memory which probably would have been ok, but I wanted to add more. I was worried such an old machine might take a special type of memory that I might not have but nope, I had a box full of it! So I upgraded it to 64 megs. When I went out to my shed, into my tub of REALLY old audio card, I came across an ESS ISA card. Turns out that is one of the best Sound Blaster clone cards. Installed it and it works great. I also have an STB PCI graphics card which I’m not sure if it has any 3d graphics acceleration. I guess I'll find out when I install the drivers. What should be arriving by the end of the week is a Compact Flash to PCI adapter. This will allow me to put in a compact flash card, into the back of the computer. It also allows me to remove it and plug it into a card reader so I can easily transfer files to and from the old computer, because that machine is a pain to take the case off. While I wait for a CF card to IDE and the CF card, I just pull the hard drive out and hook it up to a spare workstation I have setup, then just boot in to a PE environment and transfer some files to the hard drive and connect it back to the gateway. I'm going to be using that for the time being until my compact flash card and reader arrives. I had originally thought about upgrading the CD drive and using CD-RW disks. I did find a brand new sealed RW disk that wasn't even opened but had some issues burning the disk. I have quite the collection of IDE and Sata CD/DVD drives to choose from. Installed some dos games and they run great. Also installed Windows 95 tonight, and that 64 megs of ram really speeds things up. My Ram collection IDE / Sata CD / DVD / Collection Sata Cable Collection IDE Cable collection Power cord collection Floppy Drive Colleciton Video Card collection (At least would I could find laying around) There photos were taking with a cell phone Really old Modems I found in my shed

From the Forums: Official Neowin photography contest for October
Fezmid posted a topic in Front Page News
From the Forums: Official Neowin photography contest for October by Christopher White Did you know Neowin has a photography forum or that we used to have a monthly photography contest? Well, we do, and we did, and while the forum has always been there, we want to continue the monthly photography contest to our loyal (and new) readers! Although the August contest generated a lot of interest, it resulted in only three submissions. Long time reader, warwagon, won the prize with the above photograph of an Xbox controller with interesting lighting from lamps in his room. Check out the poll results thread to see his explanation of how he created the picture. The number one thing to keep in mind is that the contest should be used as motivation to go out and use your camera, not to go through old photos that you've taken. In the past, we've had people submit old photos, so be sure the photo you submit was taken this month! The main rules to keep in mind are: Photos must be taken in the time frame of the theme (i.e.: October) Submission must be on a website that conserves EXIF data Spam will be deleted as per the forum rules, such as photos for sale The rest of the forum rules still apply One picture per theme Neowin claims absolutely NO ownership of your images. If you win, you'll make the front page though! The theme for the month of October is "Food" and can be interpreted any way you want (this is art!). So go out into the world (or stay in your house), take some photos, and post the best one on the forum for everyone to vote on at the end of October! While there's no big prize this month, the winner gets to choose the theme for the next month's contest! Remember: Entries are made in the FORUMS (see October Contest post link) and not in the comments here, although we'd love to hear your thoughts on the contest! Forum link: Here- 2 replies

question Application to manage duplicate files in different directories.
ZeroFearX posted a question in Software Discussion & Support
Hello, I have 2 folders with more than 140gb of pictures. Sadly between them, they might be 70gb of pictures that are the same. However some might have the same filenames but be different and the folder location might be different. Anyone know a good software that could merge both folder and do a good job at only deleting duplicate files ? Free or Paid. Thank you -

OkCupid is doing away with crappy unwanted messages by Paul Hill The dating network, OkCupid, is taking another measure to ensure the messages that people receive are actually wanted. In a blog post, the company said that it is doing away with open-messaging and replacing it with a system that’ll mean both parties have to like each other for conversations to get going. The company has said it'll give a helping hand getting you 'liked', though. In its blog post, OkCupid says: “Now all of your messages will be from people you’ve liked. We don’t want to inundate you with messages from people you’ve passed on, or people who’ve messaged you that you haven’t liked yet … we’ve got a lot of love for people who make the first move, so if someone you haven’t liked yet messages you, we’ll promote them to you and let you know they’ve messaged you in DoubleTake, Discovery and Search.” OkCupid has been a bit up and down as of late, with the company introducing new features every several weeks to make it more relevant in a world where people are more used to swiping on TInder than making a huge profile chock full of information. The latest move builds upon filters, having users take a pledge to say that they promise not to send unsolicited images, and encouraging users to send better messages than just “hey”. With the latest amendment to the dating network, the sent messages tab has been removed meaning your first messages will only appear to the recipient; if they do respond then your first message will reappear in the messages thread. After 90 days, if your message has gone unanswered, the conversation will slip down into their old messages section on the off chance that they decide to look through and send a reply. Welcome to the Neowin photo gallery! Here you can post your pictures and discuss your photography techniques. Please be mindful of our members on dial-up and try to keep the dimensions of the pics and the size of the files to a respectable size for 1024 x 768 viewers. Please refrain from quoting images in your replies. I will also ask that you link to images on your own space, as much as possible. Try to put more details from your camera settings (EXIF) and also talk about what you have done with Photoshop (or similar). There are a lot of photographers here that like your editing skills and would like to learn more. The previous thread can be found here. Posting your photos is made easier thanks to a member contribution! Argote created a Flickr to IPB webapp, thanks! [direct link to app] You can find the Neowin Flickr group here.

First live images of the upcoming Galaxy Note8 get leaked, S Pen spotted as well
Hamza Jawad posted a topic in Front Page News
First live images of the upcoming Galaxy Note8 get leaked, S Pen spotted as well by Hamza Jawad With Samsung's highly anticipated Note8's release date fast approaching, the number of rumors regarding the device have been steadily increasing. After our first look at the device in an accessory render at the end of June, around two weeks ago we got a glimpse of some mockups of the Galaxy Note8 created by smartphone case maker, Ghostek. Now, real-life pictures have been been leaked that show us exactly what the smartphone looks like. The design looks to be quite similar to Galaxy S8, another one of Samsung's flagship devices that was released earlier this year in April. The photos clearly show a dual-camera at the backside, a dedicated Bixby button, and a fingerprint scanner right next to the camera. That's not all though; the leaked images show us the S Pen as well, which from the looks of it, is almost identical to the one that accompanied the recalled Galaxy Note7. Though it is important to note that this S Pen is not stock from the Note7, since that is still being included with the Note7 in South Korea as the 'fandom' edition. The Samsung Galaxy Note8 is expected to feature a (less explosive) 3300mAh battery, 6GB of RAM, along with a hefty 64GB of storage with optional expansion via a microSD slot. It will launch on August 23 at Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event in New York and Neowin's Rich Woods will be at the event to get you all the latest news on the day. Samsung will be hoping that the device is more successful than the fiery Galaxy Note7, which was discontinued last October. Source and images: Slashleaks- 9 replies

Apparently Spotify have tried a new campaign, and I personally find it hilarious. They're taken their listener data to create some more personal adverts:

Hi, In about a week, I'm going to have a shooting where the plan is to recreate movie posters and popular pictures featuring Scarlett Johannsson with a model who looks a bit like her. Thing is, I'm going to work with a friend (photographer, not model) to learn from each other during the shooting itself and later on in Photoshop. This shooting will be TFCD based, so no money involved whatsoever. Now, two questions: First, any suggestions as to which pictures we should recreate? We have about a dozen so far but we're still looking for inspiration. Second, I'm wondering if I'm going to run into copyright issues if I put the pics online. I mean Scarlett won't be on them, but there'll be film titles etc. Or does that fall under fair use? Does anyone know?

A Wisconsin man has been "banned from the Internet" by a judge after he posted a fake Craigslist ad inviting men over to his neighbor's house for sex. "That's the punishment for 31-year-old Jason Willis of Waterford for ... urging strangers to show up at his neighbors house for sex. Apparently several people showed up at the woman's doorstep, one person reportedly wearing just a coat and nothing else," WDJT reports. Willis claims the posts were a prank, although Uproxx notes the Craigslist ads contained dangerous personal information: "his neighbor's full name, address, and even pictures." His neighbor, whom WISN identified only as "Dawn," said Willis' prank still haunts her. "It's been about a year and a half, but I'm still nervous as to who is coming to my door, why they are coming to my door." Willis has been sentenced to 30 months on probation, and must remain disconnected from the Internet during that time or face 18 months in prison. The judge called Willis' actions: "unconscionable," saying: "You were mean to your neighbor. In the worst possible way. Without any benefit,' the Journal Times reports. The judge later told WTMJ Willis used the Web like a weapon, and the Internet ban is meant to disarm him. "If you want to drive drunk, you're not allowed to drive! To me, a public availability of the internet, to use it the way he did, is unconscionable. Everybody knows it's wrong. He knew it was wrong. He admitted it." Willis has 30 days to disconnect his Internet before the ban kicks in. source

A software that automatically sorts pictures?
Murasame posted a question in Software Discussion & Support
Obviously I should have sorted them out over the years after taking them, but I have over 4000 Christmas, birthday, vacation, etc photos that have accumilated over the years. They were all just thrown into one folder. Quite a few don't have correct dates. I need a program that can automatically place maybe 200 pictures in separate sub folders at a time, so Windows doesn't have to be slowed down trying to load a single massive folder.
