Good keyboards now days?

@neufuse What did you end up going with?

In a similar situation as I also (still) use the Ergo 4000 (Used to have 3-4 for various sites so have backups).

My wife has the newer bluetooth grey surface ergo keyboard but not my cup of tea.

I never used one of those with that kind of shape, but given the split between the keys, that's almost surely going to throw people off who are used to a standard keyboard layout.

I am almost certain that would totally throw me off since ones hands/fingers are used to standard keyboards and know where to type but with that gap about half way in the keys, it seems like one would have to totally retrain their hands/fingers and their typing speed would take a rather big hit.

ain't that awkward to type on? ; or was it something you got used to early on so it does not bother you?

Personally I am not a fan of wireless keyboards, mainly for two reasons (but my "#2" might not matter for some people who replace their devices every 5 years or so)...

1)Security (ones key-presses could potentially be intercepted where as with a wired keyboard that's pretty much impossible. granted, I don't know how likely it would be for someone to intercept your wireless keyboards key-presses though)

2)Battery (mostly because a lot of rechargeable devices nowadays use rechargeable lithium and, in the long term, like say you plan on getting 10-20+ years of use out of something, finding a quality rechargeable lithium battery will likely become a problem before the device itself dies. that won't be a issue if your device uses AA/AAA batteries and then you can use NiMh (Eneloop etc) as finding quality replacement batteries here will never be a issue since these will still be around decades from now. only way this won't matter is say a person only plans on using their device for a more limited time frame (say maybe 5 years or so, maybe 10-ish tops) and then replaces it with another device. but if you plan on using a device until it dies, that could last at least 10-20+ years etc.

additionally with a rechargeable... since keyboards tend to be not moved, all the more reason wired is preferred. because with a mouse I can easily see why many opt for wireless because the cord could get a bit annoying when moving mouse around, but with a keyboard this won't be a issue since it's stationary.

p.s. with my cheaper mouse (ASUS WT465) I don't have to ever worry about having to get rid of the mouse due to lack of quality replacement batteries since it runs on a single AA (that's one reason I do not like a lot of higher priced mice since they use rechargeable lithium and that will probably become a issue before the mouse itself malfunctions), of which I got NiMh in it (I would estimate it runs for about 1 month, maybe 2 months, before it needs recharging (granted, it's currently running a older AA NiMh in it which it's capacity has likely diminished a fair amount (my guess is it's somewhere around 1300-1500mAh given what my MaHa C-9000 charger says) vs a new 1900-2000mAh Eneloop) which will easily last years. so as long as the mouse itself continues to work well, ill probably keep using it until it dies as it could be for another 10+ years, who knows.
