  6. Intel's new driver 27.20.100.9466 fixes Cyberpunk 2077 glitches but it is still unplayable by Sayan Sen Intel today has released its latest DCH display driver bringing the version up to 27.20.100.9466. The driver fixes glitches related to graphics rendering in a few titles like Cyberpunk 2077, although the company has noted the game is still not playable as according to its internal testing, Intel's Iris Xe graphics only gets around 20fps. So it is safe to assume that the slower UHD Graphics will struggle even more. It also resolves some display problems on 8K monitors and issues related to Multi-Stream Transport (MST) or Daisy Chaining. There are also a few fixes for video playback issues. The list of bugs fixed in this release are: Minor graphic anomalies seen on main character during character creation in Cyberpunk 2077 (DX12). Minor graphic anomalies seen on floor when graphics quality is set to High in Valorant. Minor graphic anomalies seen in Battlefield I (DX11) and Valheim(Vulkan) (loading screen). Black squares seen after cutscenes with Video Quality Profile set to High in Wolfenstein: Youngblood (Vulkan). Intermittent crash or hang seen in Cyberpunk 2077 (DX12), Ridge Racer Unbounded, StarCraft 2, Horizon Zero Dawn (DX12). Lag observed while playing a 4K/2K/ Full HD video in 8K60 Tiled mode with application window maximized. Video freezes and lags when playing movie in Movies and TV application and zooming in / out by double clicks. Video will freeze when exit from full screen to small window during video playback. Green color corruption observed while rotating media playback. MST side monitors will not display after unplug DP switch side monitor and plug to MST side. Fourth display cannot light on in second screen only mode when four displays are connected via DP in daisy chain. 8K monitor keeps blinking in extend mode/ 2nd only mode. Video will show lag or garbage observed in full screen mode with 8K monitor connected. 8K monitor is inactive after upgrade to latest graphics driver. Half display may blank out when rebooting with 4K single Tiled display connected via Display Port. Below is a list of the issues that are yet to be resolved: Intermittent crash or hang may be seen in Dirt 5 (DX12), Shadowman Remastered (Vulkan), Shadow of the Tomb Raider (DX11) on Intel® Iris® Xe and Intel® Iris® X e Max graphics. Intermittent crash or hang may be seen in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (DX12), Need for Speed: Payback, Doom Eternal (Vulkan) on Intel® Iris® Xe graphics. Intermittent crash or hang may be seen in Marvel’s Avengers (DX12), Red Dead Redemption 2 (Vulkan), World of Warcraft Shadowlands (DX12), Sid Meier’s Civilization VI (during ALT + ENTER) on Intel® Iris® X e Max graphics. Intermittent crash or hang may be seen in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint (DX11), Metro Exodus (DX12) when changing graphics settings, Destiny 2 (with anti-cheat enabled). Minor graphic anomalies may be observed in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (DX12), Dirt 5 (DX12), Baldur’s Gate 3 (Vulkan), Forza Horizon 4 (DX12), Hitman 2 (DX12), Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint (DX11), Watch Dogs: Legion (DX12), FIFA 21 (during ALT + TAB), 3DMark: FireStrike on Intel® Iris® Xe and Intel® Iris® X e Max graphics. Minor graphic anomalies may be observed in Far Cry: New Dawn when starting from a saved file, Spyro: Reignited Trilogy, Adobe Premiere Pro 2020 when playing video on Intel® Iris® Xe graphics. Minor graphic anomalies may be observed in Control* (DX12), Horizon Zero Dawn (DX12), Metro Exodus (DX12), Red Dead Redemption 2 (Vulkan) on Intel® Iris® Xe Max graphics. Curiously, it seems that the majority of the unresolved issues are on Intel's Iris Xe graphics. In terms of compatibility, there are no major changes here. You'll need a 6th-generation Intel Core processor or newer, or related Celeron and Pentium processors with Intel HD Graphics 500 and higher. The driver is also compatible with Iris Xe-based graphics, be it integrated or dedicated. Software-wise, the driver will work with any version of Windows 10 starting with version 1709. To download the 27.20.100.9466 driver, head over to Intel's official website here. As usual, the display driver package contains the graphics driver, the Intel Graphics Command Center, audio drivers, and more.
  7. Intel's discrete desktop GPU is not compatible with AMD and older Intel PCs by Usama Jawad Intel finally unveiled its Iris Xe discrete GPU yesterday. While the card is not meant to compete against offerings from Nvidia and AMD, the firm is also looking to deliver gaming-focused GPUs in the future. For its current offering though, it has noted that it is incompatible with older Intel PCs, as well as AMD systems. Image via Videocardz It is important to note that this move doesn't concern regular consumers. Intel plans to sell the discrete GPU directly to OEMs and system integrators only, so that they can include it in pre-built systems. It's not a card that is readily available in the market, at least for now. In a statement to Legit Reviews, Intel had the following to say: The Iris Xe discrete add-in card will be paired with 9th gen (Coffee Lake-S) and 10th gen (Comet Lake-S) Intel® Core™ desktop processors and Intel(R) B460, H410, B365, and H310C chipset-based motherboards and sold as part of pre-built systems. These motherboards require a special BIOS that supports Intel Iris Xe, so the cards won’t be compatible with other systems. The limited compatibility of the new card is certainly interesting, and will probably raise some eyebrows as to what the situation will be like for more consumer-focused GPUs in the future. That said, it's still early days, and we will likely learn more in the next few months. Source: Legit Reviews
  8. Intel's Iris Xe discrete desktop graphics card is finally here by Sayan Sen Today is a historic day for PC as Intel, after failing to do so in the past, has finally launched its first discrete GPU based on Iris Xe architecture. The company announced its plans for DG1 (probably short for Desktop Graphics 1) last year at CES 2020 where we were teased with an early variant of the GPU running Destiny 2. Since then, we have seen the performance of Intel's Xe-LP in Tiger Lake laptops. For example, the Dell XPS 13 9310 that we reviewed has the Intel Core i7-1165G7 with integrated 96 Iris Xe Execution Units (EUs). The Iris Xe desktop version that Intel launches today has 16 fewer units at 80. However, the performance of the graphics card may not be far behind the 96 EU mobile integrated variant due to the former being a desktop part and shouldn't be constrained by heat or power like in laptops, and the GPU also has the entire memory bandwidth as well as the dedicated 4GB VRAM all to itself. Intel has worked with ASUS and another AIB partner to release the Iris Xe desktop card. A couple of pictures of the cards from the two partners has also been unveiled. Oddly, Intel has referred to the other AIB partner simply as "other partners" (and it is allegedly Colorful according to German media outlet hardwareLUXX) Above we have the ASUS' variant that appears to be a passively cooled solution, which could be ideal for a silent PC setup, while below is the alleged Colorful's more colorful dual-fan edition. As Iris Xe features AV1 decode acceleration - something which other lower-end desktop GPUs currently lack - it should be useful for modern Home Theatre PCs (HTPC) or Media PCs. Iris Xe also supports DP4a deep-learning inference acceleration and could be helpful as a cheap accelerator for AI and ML workloads to assist the CPU. For now, Intel's Iris Xe discrete graphics will be sold by OEMs and system integrators only. Intel also seems to be hinting that systems with this GPU won't be too pricey as they will be targeting the lower end "high-volume, value-desktop market" with this. So while Intel currently isn't looking to lock horns with the big boys AMD and Nvidia at the high end, they definitely plan to do so sometime later in the year. Source and images: Intel
  9. Intel's graphics driver version 27.20.100.9039 fixes Handbrake error in Iris Xe Max by Sayan Sen Intel has released a new graphics driver version 27.20.100.9039 for its Iris Xe Max DG1 dedicated graphics. So far, OEMs like Acer, among others, have announced notebooks with the dedicated Iris Xe Max GPU. The driver fixes an error in the popular video-transcoding application Handbrake on such machines when using Xe Max graphics. This is the highlight of the release since QuickSync is a major use-case for Intel's graphics. The driver also claims to have better optimization in DirectX 9 titles. A couple of other bugs have also been fixed. They are: App crash observed while attempting to play the game in MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. Minor graphic anomalies seen in Battlefield V* (DX12). Intel has also listed the issues that it's still working on. Intermittent Crash or hang may be seen in Tom Clancy’s The Division 2* (DX12), Horizon Zero Dawn* (DX12), Borderlands 3* (DX12), Destiny 2 (with anti-cheat enabled), Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War* (DX12), Cyberpunk 2077* (DX12), Avengers*(DX12), Dirt 5* (DX12), Counter Strike: Global Offensive (with Stream Textures enabled). Minor graphic anomalies may be seen in Shadow of the Tomb Raider* (DX12), Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint* (DX11), Madden NFL 21* (DX12), Forza Horizon 4, Watch Dogs: Legion (DX12), Hitman 2* (DX12). This driver is only compatible with Intel's Iris Xe Max DG1 graphics running Windows 10 64-bit May 2020 update or newer. If you own such a machine, you can download it in either exe or zip format by heading over to Intel's download center page.
