  2. Meta Quest Gaming Showcase showed off VR versions of Bulletstorm, 7th Guest and more by John Callaham Just a few hours after Meta surprised many people by officially revealing its Meta Quest 3 VR headset, the company held its annual online Quest Gaming Showcase. Over 20 upcoming VR games were either revealed or got new updates as part of the event. The Meta Quest blog has a solid recap of all the VR games that were shown off during the Games Showcase. However, not all of them will be exclusive to Meta's headsets. Indeed, many of the games will also be coming to Sony's PS VR2 and even Valve's SteamVR platform. One of those games will be Bulletstorm VR, an adaptation of the great 2011 sci-i first-person shooter from developer People Can Fly. Here's what you can expect: Utilize everything from your Flailgun to Bulletstorm’s iconic energy leash to perform creative acts of carnage on your enemies. Effortlessly switch between melee and ranged combat to perform an array of unique Skillshots on your adversaries to earn additional experience and boost your abilities. These range from kicking an enemy into a cactus, to impaling them on rebar, to shooting them in the groin. In Bulletstorm VR everything is a weapon, and you’re encouraged to get as creative as possible when racking up your kill count! Another VR game adaptation that's coming this year is The 7th Guest, the classic 1990s adventure game. This new version is being developed by Vertigo Games. Here's what you can expect: The team is using volumetric video capture to recreate the FMV (full-motion video) storytelling of the original game, bringing the classic adventure to life like never before. And for the first time ever, the iconic mansion is being recreated in full 3D—though don’t be surprised if it starts shifting around you. After all, it’s haunted. Both games are due out later this year. Some of the other highlights of the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase include: Asgard’s Wrath 2 - This is a sequel to Meta's in-house developed VR title, The new game will continue its theme of players battling mythical creatures and even god in this fantasy RPG. Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord - Announced at last year's Quest Gaming Showcase, we got to see a new story trailer for this multiplayer co-op game based on the movie franchise. PowerWash Simulator VR - Yes, this cult hit game where you wash down things is perfect for a VR game, and later this year we will get our wish. Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR - This was the only game that was announced during the showcase but that we didn't see any footage. Ubisoft's hit franchise is coming to VR with more info to be revealed at the Ubisoft Forward streaming event on June 12. 4. Rainbow Six Siege, Farming Sim 22, and Ghostrunner hit Xbox Free Play Days this weekend by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Microsoft's Free Play Days promotion for Xbox users took a rare break last week, but it's making up for it with a hit-filled games offering this time. The latest promotion has three games to try out for Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members on console: Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Farming Simulator 22: Platinum Edition, and Ghostrunner. Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft's long-running tactical shooter experience, offers five versus five action with a variety of operatives. Each available character comes with high-tech abilities, and the title touts levels with a large amount of destructibility for promoting strategic insertions. Next up is Ghostrunner, the single-player sci-fi experience where players take the role of a cyborg ninja, who slices and parkours through fast-paced and brutal levels. Both the enemies and the player character die in one hit, meaning players have to go through levels with precision to make it out alive. A sequel was also announced recently. The last game having a free event on Xbox this weekend is Farming Simulator 22. The latest entry in the hugely popular sim franchise offers over 500 farming machinery from real-world manufacturers to begin players' farming journey across agriculture, forestry, and animal husbandry. All the Free Play Days games of this weekend have discounts attached to them as well, making it cheaper to continue a playthrough even after the temporary free-to-play sessions. Here are the games' Microsoft Store pages for easy access: Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege Operator Edition - $35.99 (Xbox One, Series X|S) Farming Simulator 22 – Platinum Edition - 47.99 (Xbox One, Series X|S) Ghostrunner - $11.99 (Xbox One, Series X|S) This latest lineup of Xbox Free Play Days titles is available to install and try out through the weekend. Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members have access to the three games from now until Sunday, June 4 at 11:59pm PDT.
  5. Report claims Redfall developer Arkane Austin was understaffed and lacked direction by John Callaham Redfall was considered by Microsoft to be one of its big first-party exclusive games for its Xbox consoles and for the PC before it launched on May 2. Instead, the vampire-themed multiplayer PvE shooter received mediocre, at best, reviews from both game critics and gamers in general. Even Microsoft's Xbox head Phil Spencer admitted in a post-launch interview he was "disappointed" with the game's release. Now a new report from Bloomberg, using unnamed sources, claims that the development of Redfall at the Arkane Austin studio was troubled from start to finish. The studio's last game, before Microsoft's acquired its parent company ZeniMax Studios in 2021, was the critically acclaimed sci-fi single-player first-person shooter Prey. However, it wasn't a commercial success so the team came up with the multiplayer-themed Redfall to target a larger audience. However, the article claims that after the game got started in 2018, the direction of its development became unclear. It stated: Staff members said that, over time, they grew frustrated with management’s frequently shifting references to other games, such as Far Cry and Borderlands, that left each department with varying ideas of what exactly they were making. Throughout the development, the fundamental tension between single-player and multiplayer design remained unresolved. Arkane Austin also had issues with team members leaving and also encountered problems bringing in people to replace them. The studio reportedly had less than 100 team members, which is not that huge considering the type of multiplayer game that Redfall was aiming to provide to gamers. In the end, Redfall didn't come together, despite delays in its release date. It remains to be seen how the game will fare in the future, even if Arkane Austin continues to try to improve it and add content.
  6. AMD Adrenalin 23.5.2 driver delivers Diablo IV support and Microsoft Olive optimizations by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe We are already in June but AMD is not finished with May it seems. The AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 23.5.2 release drops as May's second Radeon graphics driver update, and it carries official support for Blizzard Entertainment's latest game, plus AI improvements. Diablo IV is officially releasing on June 5, but Digital Deluxe and Ultimate Edition owners can jump in later today to begin their action-RPG adventure. This driver is a recommended install for anyone playing the game on Radeon hardware, although AMD hasn't detailed any specific improvements to look out for this time. The driver also touts major improvements to Microsoft's Olive DirectML pipeline for Stable Diffusion 1.5. In its testing on a Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card for acceleration, AMD has seen double the performance when using Stable Diffusion 1.5's "text-to-image diffusion generating 512 x 512 images." There are no fixed issues in this release unfortunately, but there are known issues to look out for: High idle power has situationally been observed when using select high-resolution and high refresh rate displays on Radeon™ RX 7000 series GPUs. Certain virtual reality games or applications may encounter suboptimal performance or occasional stuttering on Radeon™ RX 7000 series GPUs. Application crash may be intermittently observed while playing RuneScape™ on some AMD Graphics Products, such as the Radeon™ RX 5700 XT. Application crash or driver timeout may be observed during playback of AV1 video content using DaVinci Resolve™ Studio. Intermittent corruption may be observed after switching windows while play Nioh 2™ on some AMD Graphics Products, such as the Radeon™ RX 6800 XT. The WHQL-certified AMD Adrenalin Edition 23.5.1 driver can now be upgraded via the Radeon Settings app on Windows. Anyone looking for a standalone download link to install it directly can find the driver link on its release notes page here.
  7. Battlefield 2042 Season 5 hands-on preview: Another step forward, but is this the end? by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe 18 months of updates in, Battlefield 2042 is about to receive its fifth seasonal content drop. With the update slated to hit on June 7, EA invited me to try out the content before the launch in a closed online preview session. Here are my thoughts on the new content, as well as the future of the game. As previously announced, Season 5's launch comes with Reclaimed as a new map, three new weapons, three new grenade variants, squad management features, and a number of quality-of-life changes to vehicles, classic weapons, and more. The new map: Reclaimed Diving right in, my first impression of Reclaimed was just how small it felt compared to other maps of 2042. It turns out I was correct. DICE confirmed that this is the smallest map yet to hit the game, designed from the ground up to be 64-player centric. You read that right, and the only way to play Reclaimed in 128-mode is to spin up a custom Portal session, though I would hate to see the absolute meat grinder that it would be. Due to the lower player count and smaller map area, you won't find any jets or transport choppers on this map, though almost everything else, hardware wise, is fair game. If you ever played Battlefield 4's Zavod 311 map, the new arena may feel a little familiar. Set in Czechia, the new map presents a war-torn industrial environment that's been overtaken by nature. It's more naturally dirty and worn down than the maps we've seen so far for 2042. Trees are growing through the industrial buildings' broken roofs, and flashy graffiti covers many of their walls, made by anti-war groups of this universe. There are three objective points with open-ended flags that allow for vehicles to pressure and takeover, while the remaining three are closed off and need an infantry presence to effectively attack. Highlights for me were the two side-by-side set warehouses that make up two objectives. These let teams battle it out between them across the road as both buildings' walls slowly crumble from the ongoing battle, leaving only a skeleton in the end. You won't be taking down any of the buildings themselves though, we are way past that level of destruction it seems. Another highlight was the bunker that's carved onto a mountain, with multiple angles of attack available. Shield-wielding Dozer can be an optimal choice of operator here thanks to the more closed-off, narrow sections available. I can comment on the map layout being extremely heavy with cover too. There were almost no stretches of empty roads or natural landscapes like we've seen in the original launch maps before their reworks. The play session lasted a couple of hours and was split into two parts offering Breakthrough and Conquest. Unfortunately, the preview experience was mostly against bots, with players only making up a maximum of two squads per team through the whole session I was present in. This makes it both difficult to judge the map's balance, flow, and intensity, as well as to find if there are any natural chokepoints that can slow the momentum from an over-aggressive team. Weapons, Gadgets, and Squad Management The bolt action family has a new member: the XCE Bar. While the sound of its firing is not my favorite due to the lack of a proper 'Thud', players looking to drop enemies with well-placed headshots now have another highly customizable choice. Almost every attachment under the sun comes as an option for this sniper, letting it be whatever its user wants it to be. Battlefield 2042's live attachment swapping system shines here too, letting the gun go from a scoped, long-range assassin to a mid-range rifle with a holographic sight for aggressive players within seconds. Battlefield 4’s popular G36C is also here, which now sports the name GEW-46. The assault rifle is aimed at medium range engagements, which is basically perfect for the new map. I found the spread pattern a little hard to control over long bursts, but I'm sure with the proper attachments, it can be a monster for almost any scenario. Lastly, into the weapons front arrives the BFP.50, which is aptly described as a hand cannon by DICE. This can two-shot enemies at close range. If you miss though, the rather long gap between trigger pulls means the advantage goes to the enemy to do a quick and deadly spray in your direction. As with any Battlefield game, there are grumblings from fans about the overuse, or spam, of explosives in 2042. Already, there are grenades, a multitude of shoulder-fired rocket variants, weapon-mounted grenade launchers, C4, airburst launchers, sticky launchers, claymores, and more from the infantry side, and let's not forget all the firepower from ground and air vehicles. Now in Season 5, DICE is adding to that. We are getting spring grenades that jump up before exploding to flush people out of cover, low-power mini grenades that come in packs of three, and anti-tank sticky grenades that are self-explanatory. It's going to be Christmas for explosion lovers like me, but many others will probably switch to playing as Irish for his projectile neutralizing gadget. Delivering on fan requests, the classic RPG-7 (V2) is now an option as a standard carry for the Engineer class. It packs a punch too, delivering 35 damage to the back of tanks. Hitting long-range targets still has a special nostalgic feeling when using this retro launcher. Combined with the anti-tank grenades (around 20 damage a pop, and you get two), a lone engineer with the right toolset can now take down heavy armor relatively quickly if they can avoid the gunners. Finally, squad management is now a feature of Battlefield 2042, something that's weird to even type out considering it was such a mundane feature I had clearly taken for granted in previous titles. A new menu option now allows for the creation of new squads, joining one with free slots, and easily seeing if any squad has a friend in them. Previously, you could only switch to a random squad, and that was essentially a hidden setting tucked away in a corner. Adding to it, DICE plans to bring back XP bonuses for squad members that follow squad leader's orders in a mid-season update as well. Overall, this is another much-needed content and feature injection for the shooter. What's next? Battlefield 2042 was supposed to be the next major step in the long-running franchise, a true next-gen experience with doubled player counts, near-future set warfare, an extraction game mode, and even built-in customizable content from previous entries. Of course, the horrible launch took the wind out of the sails quite effectively. As I outlined in my original review of 2042, terrible performance, the shocking number of bugs, unbalanced maps, no class system, and lack of some basic features, which we are finally getting around to receiving, made this easily the worst launch of a Battlefield game ever. One and a half years of updates from DICE have brought the game to a point that probably should have been the launch experience. Classes were brought back, finally giving roles for players to follow, almost all launch maps have received reworks (final one coming later in Season 5), while crashes and visual bugs have all but disappeared. Despite being promoted for its massive battles and focus on team play, the lack of squad management hurt the game heavily in my opinion. But we are finally getting that resolved soon too. That doesn't mean there have been casualties on the way. The extraction mode's updates were cut early on, and Portal mode is yet to receive any new content from previous Battlefield games since launch too. The studio seems to be struggling with balancing 128-player maps. New specialists are also not in development. These were all major selling points originally. Sure, the game is still getting seasonal updates every few months, but with DICE's focus being moved to a future Battlefield entry that might take an entirely new form, I don't know how many more seasons 2042 has in it, if there are any more at all. At the time of writing, player counts on Steam shows Battlefield 2042 having around the same number of players as 2018's Battlefield V, which had its own launch controversies. When the newest game in a high-profile multiplayer franchise can't ditch the stigma surrounding a bad launch and attract new players even with continued updates, it won't be a big surprise to me if Season 5 ends up being the grand finale. Though I hope this is not the case. While DICE has said that work on the game will continue post-Season 5, the studio is being ambiguous about what kind of future support the game will see exactly. It's a shame if EA decides to put Battlefield 2042 in maintenance mode when the game finally feels like it's reaching a good state. Battlefield 2042 – Season 5: New Dawn hits PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 on June 7 as a free update for owners of the game. EA Play, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and PC Game Pass subscription holders are also gaining access for no extra charge. The gameplay impressions and screenshots in this article were gathered during a digital closed preview session of the upcoming content provided by EA and DICE.

  9. Intel releases another unexciting Arc driver, optimized for Diablo IV, Street Fighter 6 by Sayan Sen Intel has released its newest Windows graphics driver for Arc with beta version 31.0.101.4382. The driver comes optimized for Diablo IV and Street Fighter 6, and also claims to boost performance in Total War: Warhammer III in the Mirror of Madness benchmark by less than five percent. The release notes for the new 31.0.101.4382 driver are given below: GAMING HIGHLIGHTS: Intel® Game On Driver support on Intel® Arc™ A-series Graphics for: Diablo IV* Street Fighter 6* Game performance improvements versus Intel® 31.0.101.4369 software driver for: Total War: Warhammer III* (DX11) – Mirror of Madness Benchmark Up to 4% uplift at 1080p with Ultra settings FIXED ISSUES: Intel® Arc™ Graphics Products: Certain applications using Vulkan* API may experience an application crash. The Last of Us Part 1* (DX12) may experience an application crash during gameplay. Unreal Engine* 5.2 Editor may experience an application crash. With Intel® Arc Control installed, systems may experience slightly higher than expected power consumption during system sleep or hibernate. May observe “could not stop Highlights” notification when stopping Auto-Game Highlights. The Camera on-screen preview may incorrectly persist when switching between Desktop and Overlay modes. The “Connector” type in the Display page may incorrectly show DP* when using an HDMI* display connection. Intel® Arc™ Control Performance Tuning (BETA): Intel® Arc™ Control Performance Tuning is currently in Beta. As such, performance and features may behave unexpectedly. Intel® will continue to refine the Performance Tuning software in future releases. The driver can be downloaded from Intel's official website by visiting this link. Arc release notes seem to be getting boring slowly. Initially, there were typically double-digit percentage gains from game optimizations and even synthetic benchmarks would be getting improvements. However, since the previous release, the new driver performance gains noted haven't been anything much to write home about. This could mean there isn't untapped potential left in Arc anymore.
  10. Microsoft's Xbox app for Windows adds improvements to game cards and more with latest update by John Callaham As the month of May comes to a close, Microsoft is using the time to add some new features to its Xbox app for Windows. They include some improvements to game cards, some new social gaming changes, and more. The Xbox news site has the info on the update. One of the new features will allow people who are gaming on their PC to continue to view their friends list window, the chat room window, and the party window on the screen. Microsoft states: If you have two desktops, simply drag these windows onto the desktop that’s not in a full-screen game and continue to stay updated with your friends, all at-a-glance. The app now offers a way for PC games to see a streamlined version of their Xbox friends on the desktop at any time. If you see a friend that's currently online, you can click on them and start chatting. You can even see anyone who has been in a recent game with you and add them to your friends list, or import your Steam friends list by linking your Steam account to the Xbox app. The app's game cards now have more info on each game, according to the blog post: Now, you can see the game’s title along with contextual metadata like publisher, pricing, HowLongToBeat time, coming to Game Pass date, leaving Game Pass date for those games leaving soon, and more! You will see all this information as you browse through games in the app. There are also some new filter options in the Xbox app for Windows, including its HowLongToBeat score, it's rating, and more. The app also has some new game lists, including a Trending list. Finally, the accessibility settings menu in the app has been updated so you can check out these options, and other PC gaming settings, in one place. It allows users to control things like "enabling or disabling animations and background images" and more.

Not all the bells and whistles of the desktop builds will be available just yet on the new platform, but it is still a tremendous achievement. "In the past year, we have made significant strides in improving both the accuracy and performance of yuzu. And with many more such improvements in progress, we understood that the longer we waited, the more challenging it would become for us to support an Android build," revealed the Yuzu team on a blog post. "We hope to welcome Android developers interested in lending their expertise to a cutting-edge project and produce new yuzu features, optimizations, and other improvements!" There are some steep hardware requirements attached to this release, however. Only Qualcomm Snapdragon SoCs with Adreno GPUs are supported for now. Having a large amount of RAM was also mentioned as crucial, with at least 8GB being recommended, and more is always better. For example, Tears of the Kingdom currently requires 12GB of RAM to run on an Android device. Tears of the Kingdom running on a Redmagic 8 Pro! pic.twitter.com/tPTwXS4jSP — yuzu (@yuzuemu) May 31, 2023 Features such as LAN/LDN multiplayer, input profiles, and TAS scripts are also missing from the Android version of Yuzu for now. The team has said its focus is currently on improving compatibility and performance while solving emulation challenges presented by Android hardware. The developers have found that Adreno 600 GPUs running Mesa Turnip drivers display the best compatibility for games, though not the best performance. Performance differences in this early state while using the Turnip drivers and default can be seen in this chart: Yuzu came into the spotlight back in January of 2018, less than a year after the launch of the Nintendo Switch portable console. The open-source project's developers are also responsible for the Nintendo 3DS emulator Citra. Yuzu is now available via the Google Play Store in both free and paid ($4.99) variants. The Android version's GitHub page containing standalone downloads is not online yet, but the developer is planning to release it to the public soon.
  13. Microsoft seems to be hinting strongly at a Fable reboot update at the Xbox Games Showcase by John Callaham It's been a long, long time since we have heard anything about the Fable fantasy RPG reboot from developer Playground Games and Microsoft. In fact, we haven't heard anything about this game since it was first revealed with a brief teaser trailer during Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase in July 2020. However, with the 2023 Xbox Games Showcase coming up on Sunday, June 11, it looks very likely we are finally going to get some kind of update on Fable's development. That's because Microsoft is making some not-so-subtle hints that will happen. This week on the official Xbox Twitter page, Microsoft posted a quick video of an office. The camera follows what appears to be a glitter trail that leads to a PC monitor that shows the Xbox Games Showcase logo. Do you love ✨ GAMES ✨ as much as we do? Then you won’t want to miss the Xbox Games Showcase: https://t.co/YSurRjtzpn | #Starfield #XboxShowcase pic.twitter.com/O1qSlXHNmY — Xbox (@Xbox) May 30, 2023 Why is this video teasing us about a Fable update? Well, in previous versions of the Fable game franchise, players follow trails of glitter to go to their next mission or assignment. In all honestly we would have been very disappointed not to get some kind of Fable update as part of the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase. Right now, all we really know for sure is that Playground Games, who previously created the popular Forza Horizon racing games for Microsoft, is the main developer of the Fable reboot, and it will also use the same engine as the Forza Horizon games. Hopefully, this will not be the last kind of teaser from Microsoft about what games we can expect to see at its June 11 event. It starts at 10 am Pacific time (1 pm Eastern time), and it will be immediately followed by the Starfield Direct event.
  14. NVIDIA GeForce 535.98 WHQL driver is ready for Diablo IV launch, System Shock, and more by John Callaham NVIDIA has released a new Game Ready driver today for its GeForce graphics cards. The new driver, version 535.98, is WHQL certified. The update's big new feature is that it is Game Ready for the long-awaited Blizzard Entertainment action-RPG sequel Diablo IV. NVIDIA's article on this new driver released has some information on how the update helps to boost performance in Diablo IV with its GeForce RTX 40 cards, using its DLSS 3 technology. In Diablo IV, DLSS 3 helps GeForce RTX 40 Series gamers multiply performance at 4K by an average of 2.5X. In our action-filled benchmark, performance on the GeForce RTX 4090 increased by 2.4X, enabling us to play at 229 frames per second with every single setting maxed out. The GeForce RTX 4080 hit 177 FPS, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti ran Diablo IV at 139 FPS, and the GeForce RTX 4070 113 FPS. Diablo IV launches for pre-orders on Thursday, June 1, and will launch for everyone else on June 5. Keep in mind that if you buy a new GeForce RTX 4070, 4070 Ti, 4080, and 4090 graphics card, or have a new card installed in your new pre-built gaming PC, you can get a digital code for a free PC copy of Diablo IV from now until June 14. In addition to the Diablo IV support, the new driver is optimized for the System Shock PC remake which launches today. The driver also fixes some bugs: Fixed Gaming Bugs Applying GeForce Experience Freestyle filters cause games to crash [4008945] Fixed General Bugs Monitor may briefly flicker on waking from display sleep if DSR/DLDSR is enabled. [3592260] [SOLIDWORKS 2023] rendering issues when Enhanced Graphics Performance is enabled [4050712] [MAGIX Vegas Pro] Preview not working properly on some notebooks [4067005] [TouchDesigner] Degraded performance using Vulkan [3952439] [Nsight Tools] Abnormal termination that previously required a reboot [4056470] Open issues [GeForce RTX 4090] Watch Dogs 2 may display flickering when staring at the sky [3858016] Increase in DPC latency observed in Latencymon [3952556] You can download the new NVIDIA GeForce 535.98 driver for desktop GPUs here. NVIDIA notebook GPU users can use this link instead.
  15. The Devolver Direct gaming reveal event is set for June 8 with the "return" of Volvy by John Callaham Out of all the upcoming game streaming events that are planned for the next couple of weeks, we have been awaiting the news of when publisher Devolver Digital's annual event will be held. Today, we got our answer, and also what looks like the event's main theme. Devolver Direct will be held on June 8, starting at 3 pm Pacific time (6 pm Pacific time). While we will definitely get some new games revealed that Devolver Digital will publish, it looks like we will also see the "return" of the publisher's popular mascot, Volvy. If you have never heard of Volvy, the reason is he didn't exist until today. As with past online game announcements by Devolver Digital, this one is going to satirize aspects of the game industry. In this case, it looks like it's going after certain publishers with their use of the same character mascots over and over again with Volvy. We are not quite sure what kind of creature Volvy is supposed to be. Is he a hamster or a fox or something else? We do know that one of his arms and hands is much bigger than the other. Or maybe one of his arms and hands is much smaller than the other; we can't figure out which. We can't wait to learn more about Volvy. Devolver Direct is being held after Summer Games Fest, which is the biggest single multi-publisher game streaming event of the summer, with over 40 companies taking part. It will be held on June 8 starting at noon Pacific time (3 pm Eastern time). After Summer Games Fest but before Devolver Direct, you can also check out Day of the Devs starting at 2 pm Pacific time (3 pm Eastern time) which will feature more new game reveals from lots of other indie developers.
  16. Insomniac's Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is coming to PC in July by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Despite holding a major games showcase after a two-year year gap and showing off plenty of experiences, it seems Sony had held back an announcement that would have left a lot of PC gamers happy. In a Surprise announcement today with a simple blog post, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is getting a PC port on July 26. Catch the new PC reveal and features trailer of the port above. Released in 2021 for the PlayStation 5 as an exclusive, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart arrived as the ninth entry in the popular third-person platforming series. Franchise developer Insomniac Games returned for this entry too, taking a break from all its Spider-Man duties and delivering a game that was well-received and won several awards. Coming back to the PC version, its development is headed by the now Sony-owned porting specialist Nixxes Software, with Insomniac also lending support. "We are thrilled and honored to bring this iconic franchise to a new audience," said Nixxes community specialist Julian Huijbregts. "If you haven’t played a game from this series before, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is an excellent one to start with. The game is a visual spectacle that is perfectly suitable for newcomers thanks to a standalone storyline and the introduction of two brand new characters: Rivet & Kit." As with most ports of PlayStation exclusives, the PC version touts some new features over the original release too. This includes ray-traced reflections and shadows with multiple quality levels to choose from depending on the hardware. Ultra-wide monitor support extending to 21:9, 32:9, and up to 48:9 aspect ratio setups (for both gameplay and cutscenes) is confirmed too. Nvidia DLSS 3, AMD FSR 2, Intel XeSS, and Insomniac's own Temporal Injection technologies are also included to boost frame rates, which is now uncapped on the PC release as well. Moreover, full mouse and keyboard as well as controller support with rebindable keys are incoming too. Being a Sony game, the DualSense controller is supported as well, with wired connections offering the iconic haptic feedback and dynamic trigger effects. When the game was first released, it used the included SSD in the PlayStation 5 to help it handle its gameplay features, which included warping in and out of different settings with no load times. Sony has yet to reveal the PC specs for the game, but we expect that the PC version it might require an SSD as well Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart's July 26 launch will happen on Steam and the Epic Games Store for $59.99. Those who pre-order the title will also receive early access to Pixelizer weapon and Carbonox armor set.

  18. June Games with Gold brings Adios and The Vale: Shadow of the Crown to claim on Xbox by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Microsoft's Games with Gold program offers two bonus games to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Xbox Live Gold membership holders as an additional benefit. With June almost here, the company today announced what Games with Gold titles are incoming to subscribers in the coming month. The bi-monthly drop starts with a copy of Adios first, a narrative-focused adventure, which is followed by the unique audio-based action adventure The Vale: Shadow of the Crown after. Both are Xbox One titles, but thanks to the Xbox Series X|S consoles' backward compatibility support, the games are also playable natively on the modern hardware after claiming. The newly announced June 2023 Games with Gold lineup can be seen below alongside their availability dates: Adios: Available June 1 to 30 Adios is a cinematic first-person game about sticking to a complicated decision. You're a pig farmer in Kansas. It's October. Cold, crisp mornings are the norm, and you have decided that you're no longer okay with letting the mob use your pigs to dispose of bodies. When your old friend - a hitman - arrives with his assistant to deliver another body, you finally screw up the courage to tell them that you're done. The Vale: Shadow of the Crown: Available June 16 to July 15 The Vale: Shadow of the Crown is a story driven, action-adventure that utilizes the full potential of 3D audio and haptic controller feedback to deliver visceral gameplay that shatters the barrier between player and character. As an audio based game, The Vale sets out to breathe new life into medieval combat and provide a truly novel experience for visually impaired and sighted gamers alike. Don't forget about the two Games with Gold June titles that are still a part of the promotion too. The classic sci-fi racing entry Star Wars Episode I Racer is slated to leave the program tomorrow, May 31, to let Adios take its place. Meanwhile, the indie puzzle platformer Hoa will be available until June 15, which is when The Vale will replace it.
  19. Amnesia: The Bunker, Car Mechanic Simulator, Farworld Pioneers, and more hit Xbox Game Pass by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Amnesia: The Bunker It's not quite June yet but Microsoft already has the month's Xbox Game Pass drops planned out. Today's announcement carries major releases, hit indie titles, and even several day-one drops onto the Game Pass services. A Double Fine classic is included this time too, a developer that now resides under Xbox Game Studios umbrella. Here are the latest batch of games announced for Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, and Xbox Cloud Gaming, as well as their arrival dates: Supraland: Six Inches Under (Cloud, Console, and PC) – Available now Chicory: A Colorful Tale (Cloud, Console, and PC) – Available today Farworld Pioneers (Console and PC) – Available today Car Mechanic Simulator 2021 (Cloud, Console, and PC) – June 1 Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance of the Slayer (Cloud, Console, and PC) – June 1 The Big Con (Cloud, Console, and PC) – June 1 Amnesia: The Bunker (Cloud, Console, and PC) – June 6 Hypnospace Outlaw (Cloud, Console, and PC) – June 6 Rune Factory 4 Special (Cloud, Console, and PC) – June 8 Stacking (Cloud and Console) – June 8 Dordogne (Cloud, Console, and PC) – June 13 From the list, the Terraria-like sci-fi sandbox entry Farworld Pioneers, Frictional Games' highly anticipated horror game Amnesia: The Bunker, boomer shooter Slayers X, and the hand-painted indie adventure Dordogne are all day-one launches onto Game Pass. Thanks to EA Play being included as an additional service for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers, a 10-hour early access trial has now gone live for Super Mega Baseball 4. Don't forget that Battlefield 2042's fifth season and the Minecraft: Trails & Tales update will be available soon to Game Pass subscribers for no extra cost as well. As always, some older titles are leaving the services soon. June 15 will see these six games drop out from Game Pass, which includes the hit strategy game Total War: Three Kingdoms: Bridge Constructor Portal (Cloud, Console, and PC) Chorus (Cloud, Console, and PC) Maneater (Cloud, Console, and PC) Mortal Shell (Cloud, Console, and PC) Serious Sam 4 (Cloud, Console, and PC) Total War: Three Kingdoms (PC) Microsoft's massive Xbox Games Showcase is happening in just a couple of weeks, which can even be caught in some theaters. If previous events are anything to go by, that's where we will probably get to see what Microsoft has planned out for the service in the second half of 2023. Expect to see some big announcements from first-party and third-party studios for Xbox and PC Game Pass.
  20. Mortal Kombat 1 online stress test revealed for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles by John Callaham Mortal Kombat 1 was officially announced earlier this month, along with a beta test coming in August ahead of its full release on September 19. However, there will also be another chance to check out the game in a limited way before it launches. Publisher Warner Bros. Games has quietly posted a FAQ about the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 Online Stress Test. The publisher insists this is not the same thing as the upcoming beta test: The purpose is to deliberately stress our online infrastructure and identify potential issues ahead of the game’s launch. The online stress test will have only a small amount of content, according to the FAQ. Players will be able to check out 1 vs. 1 online multiplayer, and a "limited single-player Klassic Towers mode against A.I. opponents." There's no word on which fighters will be included. The stress test will be released for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X and S consoles only, much like the August beta test. It also won't support cross-play multiplayer. There's no word yet on when the online stress test will be held nor how long it will last. If you want to be considered for the stress test when it goes live, you will need to sign up for a free Warner Bros Games account, if you don't have one already. Once that's done, you can go to the Mortal Kombat 1 Online Stress Test registration site and sign up using the Warner Bros. games account. The publisher states that signing up for this stress test doesn't guarantee you will get to take part, as people will be picked at random from the list of registrations. Also, it will be limited to residents in North America, Latin America, Brazil, and Europe. We will get our first chance to see actual gameplay from Mortal Kombat 1 on June 8 during the Summer Games Fest online streaming event. You can preorder the console versions now on Amazon. As an Amazon Associate when you purchase through links on our site, we earn from qualifying purchases.
  21. MSI partners with Mercedes-AMG Motorsport to make a cool and powerful gaming laptop by John Callaham MSI is known to make some of the most powerful gaming PC laptops. Today, at Computex 2023, the company announced a new gaming notebook, one that was made in partnership with Mercedes-AMG Motorsport. The MSI Stealth 16 Mercedes-AMG Motorsport A13V is a 16-inch notebook with not only some powerful hardware inside but with some nice touches on the outside. MSI states the laptop uses the "exclusive Mercedes-AMG Selenite Gray color" that's made with a magnesium-aluminum material. This will help keep the notebook's weight down to 1.88kg (4.1 pounds). The OLED display on the laptop has a resolution of 3,840 x 2,400. Inside, it has a 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900H processor and supports up to 64GB of RAM. The notebook will be sold with the choice of an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050, 4060, or 4070 laptop GPU. Other features on this MSI notebook include an RGB keyboard developed by SteelSeries, and a six-speaker sound system from Dynaudio. The CPU and GPU are cooled by MSI's Cooler Boost 5 system, which uses two fans and five heat pipes, two of them shared. Right now, there's no word on when the MSI Stealth 16 Mercedes-AMG Motorsport notebook will launch. There's also no word on how much it will cost, although we would expect the price to be on the very high side. The notebook's official website also shows that at least some models will get some nice extras, including a mouse, a mousepad, a pouch, a USB flash drive, and more, all with the MSI and Mercedes-AMG Motorsport logos. There's no word on whether this will be included with the purchase of any model of this notebook, or if it's for a special edition. MSI also announced a number of other PC products at Computex 2023, including a couple of business-themed laptops, the Commercial 14, and the Prestige 16. It also revealed two new GeForce RTX 4060 Ti graphics cards, some new gaming PC monitors and more.
  22. The Street Fighter 6 PC benchmark tool may help to see if your rig can run the fighting game by John Callaham Street Fighter 6 is just a few days away from its release on June 2. There's already a free demo of the game you can check out. However, PC gamers who want to play the latest game in Capcom's fighting game series could get a heads up on if their rig can play the game at its optimum level by downloading and running the newly launched Street Fighter 6 benchmark tool. The benchmark tool will use the demo version of the game as its basis, and then generate a score that may show how well your rig can run the game. If the tool shows a score of 91 or above, your gaming PC should be able to run Street Fighter 6 with no performance issues: 91-100 - Can play the game with ease 71-90 - Can play the game without any problems 51-70 - Settings adjustment recommended 31-50 - Settings adjustment required 0-30 - Cannot operate the game The benchmark tool web page has instructions on how to download and install the tool. Capcom does say there might be an issue with launching the tool with a shortcut. If you run into this problem, you will need to find the tool's executable file. Once you download and install it you can find it at this location: "StreetFighter6.exe" in C:\Program Files (x86)\CAPCOM}StreetFighter6 Benchmark Capcom says they are trying to find the problem that caused the shortcut not to work. Also, Capcom does say that this benchmark tool "cannot fully guarantee how well the actual release version" of the full game will run on your PC. Capcom has also released the PC system requirements for Street Fighter 6. Minimum Specs Recommended Specs OS Windows 10 (64 bit required) Windows 10 (64 bit required) CPU Intel Core i5-7500 AMD Ryzen 3 1200 Intel Core i7 8700 AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Memory 8GB 16GB VRAM 4GB or higher 6GB GPU NVIDIA GTX 1060 AMD Radeon RX 580 NVIDIA RTX 2070 AMD Radeon RX 5700XT DirectX Version 12 Version 12 Storage 25GB 25GB Additional Notes The framerate may drop during graphic-intensive scenes. 23. NVIDIA's new G-Sync ULMB 2 will reduce motion blur in games, if you have the right monitor by John Callaham At Computex today, NVIDIA announced a new feature for more recent monitors that use its G-Sync technology. It's called Ultra Low Motion Blur 2 (ULMB 2) and it's a massive improvement over the original ULMB to cut down on motion blur issues in high-end PC gaming. NVIDIA first launched the original ULMB in 2015, back when PC gaming monitors had a much lower average refresh rate than they do today. The first ULMB cut down on a monitor's backlight 75 percent of the time which was called backlight strobing. While the picture was clearer, it also reduced its brightness and also caused the refresh rate of the display to be reduced. NVIDIA said competitive PC gamers wanted a brighter screen with a high refresh rate so the original ULMB was rarely used. Now there's the new ULMB 2, which can also use backlight strobing, while still keeping the image bright and with a high refresh date. NVIDIA states: With ULMB 2, gamers get an effective motion clarity of over 1000 Hz with these improvements, calculated as the refresh rate of the monitor multiplied by one over the duty cycle [Effective Motion Clarity = Refresh rate * (1 / Duty Cycle)]. For a 360 Hz monitor with ULMB 2, the effective motion clarity is actually 1440 Hz. That means in order to obtain the same level of motion clarity without ULMB 2, gamers would need a classic panel capable of 1440 Hz. The bad news for gamers is that for the moment, only a couple of PC gaming monitors are on sale that can support ULMB 2. They include the Acer Predator XB273U F - 27-inch 1440p 360 Hz monitor, and the ASUS ROG Swift 360Hz PG27AQN 27-inch monitor. Both will require a firmware update to enable the ULMB 2 feature. Two more monitors, the 25-inch ASUS ROG Swift Pro PG248QP and the 27-inch AOC AGON AG276QSG G-SYNC Monitor, are coming soon that will also support ULMB 2. 24. CD Projekt RED's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has now sold over 50 million copies by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The popularity of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is refusing to wane. Developer CD Projekt RED today announced that the fan-favorite RPG has now sold over 50 million copies since its launch back in 2015. "The School of the Wolf is growing, "said the studio in a tweet today. "Over 50 million people joined Geralt of Rivia on his Path of finding Ciri and defeating the Wild Hunt! Thank you for your enormous support over the years! It was just over a year ago that CD Projekt celebrated the game's 40 million copies sold milestone. That announcement arrived before the launch of the title's free next-gen update, which delivered a variety of visual upgrades and quality of life changes to the original experience. With the game now natively available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Switch, in addition to the original PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 platforms, the continued high demand makes sense. It's unclear where that number is situated now, though keep in mind that the studio is not finished with the sci-fi title yet. Its Phantom Liberty expansion is incoming sometime this year. Looking towards The Witcher franchise's future at CD Projekt, an entirely new trilogy of games set in the fantasy universe is currently in development. Development is still in the early stages, but the studio plans to have the complete trilogy within six years of the first game's launch. At the same time, 2007's first The Witcher is also getting a remake. All projects are using Unreal Engine 5 this time too, with the in-house redENGINE being ditched after Cyberpunk 2077.
