SSD deals: Crucial, Samsung external portable SSDs are selling for as low as just $48 by Sayan Sen Fast external portable storage hurts no one and if you happen to be looking around for some good deals then Samsung and Crucial SSDs have a few good deals that are worth considering. First up, we have the Samsung T7 (image above) that can read and write at speeds of up to 1,050 MB/sec and 1,000MB/s respectively. To achieve these speeds, a USB 3.2 Gen2 (10Gbps) port is required. Though on a Gen1 (5Gbps) port, you'd still get around 500-550MB/s. Both the 1TB and the 2TB models are selling at great prices on both Newegg and Amazon. You can get them at the following links: Samsung T7 1TB: $109.99 (Amazon US) ; £115.49 (Amazon UK) ; $109.99 (Newegg US) Samsung T7 2TB: $219.99 (Amazon US) ; £179.09 (Amazon UK) ; $209.03 (Newegg US) The Samsung T7 isn't the only USB 3.2 Gen2 portable SSD that's selling at a nice price. We also have the Crucial X8 which offers similar speeds but is available for significantly less money. Crucial X8 Like the T7, 1TB model of the Crucial X8 is available from both Newegg and Amazon UK at good prices. Links to products are provided below: Crucial X8 1TB: Amazon UK (£88.99) ; Newegg US ($94.49) However, if your PC happens to lack USB 3.2 Gen2 slots then the Crucial X6 model is worth considering. Crucial X6 The 500GB and the 1TB models are both selling for great discounts on Newegg US. Find them at the links below: Crucial X6 500GB: $47.99 (Newegg US) ; Crucial X6 1TB: $79.00 (Newegg US) While the X6 is as fast the X8 or the Samsung T7, it is still much faster than a slow spinning 5400RPM external hard disk drive. ADATA launches "World's Fastest" SE920 USB4 external SSD and uber-fast 12,600MT/s DDR5
hellowalkman posted a topic in Front Page News
ADATA launches "World's Fastest" SE920 USB4 external SSD and uber-fast 12,600MT/s DDR5 by Sayan Sen At its Xtreme Innovation event earlier today, ADATA announced a bunch of upcoming products and as the name suggests, most of the newly announced products are sort of extreme one way or another. For the most part, they are very fast. In fact, the company announced today two such items. First, there is its all-new SE920 external SSD. This new drive will be running on the latest USB 4.0 interface which actually adopts Intel's Thunderbolt 3 technology. Thunderbolt 3 is able to reach throughputs of 40Gbps and using this, ADATA says its new SE920 can deliver speeds of up to 4,000MB/s. Since ADATA hasn't clarified it, we assume it's the read speed as it is generally faster than writes. ADATA also didn't disclose the capacity levels of the new SE920 and it will be interesting to see if it is offered in super-sizes like the one Sabrent recently made. SSDs like to be kept cool and for that ADATA says its proprietary cooling solution has been implemented in the SE920. The company also talked about its upcoming DDR5 DRAM products and stated that is designing a new premium XPG module that will be able to deliver 12,600MT/s and operate at 1.6V. This upcoming XPG DDR5-12600 is the fastest DDR5 announced to date, faster even than the DDR5-10000 that Netac is reportedly developing. While release dates for neither of these products have been announced, we expect the DDR5-12600 kits to be available either towards the end of this year or early next year since that's when Intel's Alder Lake-S is supposedly releasing. DDR5 will also debut on AMD platforms with Zen 4 which is launching next year. -
Super-sized 16TB external SSD launched by Sabrent, the new Rocket XTRM-Q is here
hellowalkman posted a topic in Front Page News
Super-sized 16TB external SSD launched by Sabrent, the new Rocket XTRM-Q is here by Sayan Sen Storage components maker Sabrent has launched today its new external solid-state drive (SSD) dubbed Rocket XTRM-Q. However, this is no ordinary external SSD as the XTRM-Q packs a whopping 16TB of storage space. The new drive actually features dual 8TB NVMe SSDs inside an enclosure for 16TB in total. The size of the enclosure isn't too big as you can probably make out from the image above. It measures 4.5" long, 2.56" wide, and 0.68" high. In terms of build, its body is made of aluminum that makes it strong and also helps to dissipate heat. This is important if it works as well as the company says since SSDs are generally more heat-sensitive than HDDs. There is also a rubbery case on top for further protection. Now coming to the drive itself, each 8TB drive inside the enclosure can be run individually or you can run them in RAID 0 mode for a total of 16TB of storage. When running RAID 0 mode, the speed of the drive will double providing up to 2800MB/s. For speeds like this, a reasonably fast interface is necessary. For that, the Sabrent Rocket XTRM-Q comes with support for Intel Thunderbolt 3. A Thunderbolt cable is included along with a power adapter, The Sabrent Rocket XTRM-Q 16TB launches at a price of $2,899.99 and is available for purchase on Amazon's US website. The XTRM-Q isn't the only large-sized SSD that Sabrent has been in news for as last year in December, the company said it was preparing a SATA 16TB internal 2.5" SSD. Samsung is now packing up to 2TB of speedy V-NAND in its new T3 portable drive
nanoguy posted a topic in Front Page News
Samsung is now packing up to 2TB of speedy V-NAND in its new T3 portable drive by Adrian Potoroaca Samsung already offers a 2TB SSD drive for those who want fast internal storage, but what if you wanted a portable drive instead? Well, the answer is the company's new T3 portable SSD drive, which is the successor of the Samsung T1 that was announced last year. Samsung announced the new portable drive at CES 2016, and if you look at the general specifications, it is very similar to the T1. It is capable of achieving 450MB/sec in sequential reads and writes, measures 74 x 58 x 10.5mm, weighs just 51 grams, and is shock resistant up to 1500G - which means that you can drop it on a hard surface and not worry that your data will be lost. The new T3 comes in a metal enclosure with a matte finish, which gives it a very premium look and better durability, and is a welcome upgrade from the shiny plastic used for the T1. It comes in 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB versions, and supports AES 256-bit hardware encryption, which means security with little performance impact. The Samsung T3 supports USB 3.1 (only gen 1, judging from the specifications), has a USB Type C connector, and is also compatible with Android, in case you are shooting 4K video with your smartphone, or manage it from a dedicated app. The portable drive comes with a 3-year limited warranty, but pricing has yet to be revealed. Judging from the T1's price at launch, it will likely be a premium, especially for the 2TB T3. Don't let that discourage you, as you can now buy the T1 (still excellent value) at a pretty nice discount.
